The Castoldi farm’s first crop of Walla Walla Sweet Onions was produced in 1926 by Italian immigrant Andrea Castoldi. Andrea and two of his sons, Angelo and Guy, worked to develop their own strain of an earlier maturing sweet onion. Still working on the same farm purchased in 1924 are his grandchildren Robert and Paul alongside Robert’s son Nathan, a fourth-generation farmer. https://www.sweetonions.org/handling-a-shipping ![]() Luke Hamada

Fernando Enriquez JR grew up helping his father farm these sweet onions & always held the same passion for agriculture like his father. After graduating with a finance degree from Eastern Washington University he worked in the banking industry for 12 years. Soon Jr. felt his calling was drawing him back to the farm and decided to trade his tie in for boots, becoming the 3rd generation of farmers in his family. Knowing how important education is, JR enrolled himself in an agronomy program at a local college before he officially returned to the farm. Jr finished the agronomy program at the top of his class with a first place placement in a State soils competition. JR. is now in his 6th crop season and has gone from 15 acres in his first year to over 40 acres of onions in 2019.
